TK Engineering Consortium wins Vishwakarma Award

NEW DELHI, Mar 8: In a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, the Itanagar based TK Engineering Consortium Pvt. Ltd has won multiple awards during the 8th CIDC Vishwakarma Award function held on Monday evening at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
TK Engineering won awards in category for Best professionally managed company and Best construction project for double-laning of Papu-Yupia-Hoj Potin Road. Techi Jully managing director and Syed Ghiyasuddin project director received the award on behalf of TK group.
The award is given by Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), a body constituted by erstwhile Planning Commission of India. The award ceremony also marked the 20th annual day celebration of the Council.
The major award winners in various categories included Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Central Road Research Institute(CRRI), NCC Ltd, Goa Shipyard Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, Godrej Properties Ltd, Tata Housing Development Company Ltd, GMR (Hyderabad), Airport Authority of India etc. Hundreds of construction companies from across India were nominated for the award.
Chief Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission RK Mathur who attended the programme urged the award winners to continue to strive hard to achieve more success.
Vishwakarma Award started by CIDC has become a prestigious award over the years. There is growing realization that it is infrastructure sector which will propel growth engine of India. So, this award started to recognize the pioneers of construction sector assumes more significance.
The chairman of jury, Pradip Bhargava, former additional chief secretary, Madhya Pradesh said that the award has been given to those companies which used fair means and one who is contributing for the development of the nation.
"We received nomination from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. In the last six months, jury members traveled across country and made field visits. After going through strict procedures, we selected the winners. We are hopeful that this award will inspire the winners to continue to give quality work," said Bhargava. He also especially praised TK Engineering for taking up infrastructure projects in difficult places like Arunachal Pradesh.
This is the second major recognition of activities of TK group in a year. Earlier in January this year TK Engineering won award in gold category during the international quality crown award function held at London, United Kingdom. Prominent members of construction industry attended the award giving programme.
International Women’s Day celebrated across the state
Planet 50-50 by 2030
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: International Women's Day was celebrated across the state with various activities. The theme of this year's celebration was "Planet 50-50 by 2030" - aiming to achieve global equality in areas such as education and end all forms of discrimination.
At Ziro, the day was celebrated at Abotani Hall. The celebration programme was organized by the Ziro unit of Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society.
Addressing the event, President of APWWS (central executive committee) Gumri Ringu has said that even after centuries of struggle for rights of women, women continue to face discrimination based on gender as she called for gender equality.
She said that to achieve gender justice, political empowerment as well as economic independence and education are the vital tools.
Ringu further said that Arunachal society need to change its patriarchal position, which she said is often used in order to suppress women. She further cautioned women from being used as political tool. If the political parties are keen on participation of women in politics, they should make space for them in the legislative session, said Ringu.
Dipti Bengia, former Vice President of APWWS central team recollected the formation of the Subansiri Girls Association, Ziro in the mid 60s to stand up against child and force marriages. She said that there were many cases of the child and forced marriages which was curbed to a great extent during those days.
Encouraging women to continue to work for achieving their rights, she further said that women will be the agent of change. She further called on the gathering to step up efforts to keep the state clean.
APWWS Activist and lawyer Kani Nada Maling, in her address said that law does not discriminate on the basis of gender or religion while highlighting legal provisions for women in the country including the ones against domestic violence as well as discrimination at work place.
She underscored the need to utilize legal provisions for gender parity.
The day organized by the APWWS, Ziro Unit in collaboration with Mother's Society, Apatani Women's Society, Para Women Society and Diilyang Diibu MPCS was attended by large number of women including the Gaon Buris.
There were stalls with local produce put up by the Self Help Groups.
At Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in collaboration with Muskan Welfare Society, Women & Child Development department, Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society and Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti organized a mass procession from Mopin-Solung ground here to Vivekananda Hall, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital to mark the day.
While speaking at the event, APSCW chairperson Mitali Tingkhatra advocated for eradication of polygamy, domestic violence, and child marriage while stating that Arunachal Pradesh should strive for becoming a role model for other states by achieving gender equality by 2030.
Niba Hospital Managing Director, Dr Taba Nirmali opined that Aruanchal Pradesh Marriage Registration Act 2007 needs to be strictly implemented so that polygamy is checked.
She said that there should be 33 percent reservation in the legislative assembly so that the issues concerning women can be represented effectively.
Retired Director of W&CD Dishi Mihu Mallo said that APSCW should create awareness on the rights, schemes and policies of the women.
Along with raising the issues concerning women, they should also introspect their attitude and behavior, she said.
Police Inspector Neeranjan Kalita, who spoke on ‘Crime Against Women in Arunachal Pradesh said that the attitude among women that they are inferior to their male counterparts should be eradicated otherwise there will always a ruler and the ruled.
Rajiv Gandhi University prof. Vandana Upadhyay presented a paper on Gender Profile/Issues in Arunachal Pradesh, as resource person.
At Naharlagun, addressing a function on the occasion of IWD, State BJP Mahila Morcha President Padmeswari Jamoh said that creating awareness among the masses about the rights and roles of women in the society has been the main objective of celebrating the Day.
The objective of the celebration would be fulfilled when there will be no gender disparity and we start giving equal respect and opportunities to women, she said.
Citing the example of State BJP vice president Kenyir Ringu, who brought up and guided all her six daughters to stand on their own feet through hard work and sheer determination, Jamoh urged the mothers of the state to work hard to build career of their daughters.
BJP State General Secretary Dominic Tadar said IWD pledges for gender parity in all respects and to ensure greater participation of women in all fields at par with their men counterpart.
He also highlighted the objective of “Beti Bachao and Beti Parao” programme and various other women friendly programmes and policies of the central government.

While celebrating Day at Naharalgun, Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) on Tuesday resolved to urge the authority to keep 1 seat for women out of the three MP seats -two Lok Sabha and one Rajya Sabha -- in Arunachal Pradesh.
APMCC Vice President Mai Modi remembered the sacrifice made by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the contribution of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for women empowerment in the country. She also remembered first elected women legislator of the State Late Nyari Welly and Padmashree Late Omem Moyong Deori and their contribution for women emancipation in the State.
APCC Vice President Tadar Yadir said that the proper development of any society depends on women empowerment. She stressed the need for creating awareness among the women of the state about their rights. She also expressed concern over safety of women, child labour, trafficking of girl child etc and called upon everyone to help each other when women are in trouble.
APMCC vice president Chera Mekia, General Secretary Yame Tok also spoke. All the rank and file of APMCC, DMCC, BMCC, CMCC, Mahila Panchayat leaders and house wives attended the programme.

Addressing the huge gathering of women from all walks of life at Khonsa, ADTH Chanyok Rajkumai urged the women to be proud of what they were adding that over the years and ages the contribution of women in nation building had been immense.
While advocating for empowerment and emancipation of women in the society, Rajkumari passionately appealed to the womenfolk to be prepared to shoulder bigger responsibilities apart from their daily household chores.
In her address, DACO Sira Meto described the day as a mark of tribute to the women’s power and emphatically said that the world would be incomplete without women and their contributions.
DIPRO Denhang Bosai said that even by doing the simple household chores the women were doing a great service to the society and urged them to be good mothers, wives and good human beings adding that they were the real home makers.
He further said that joining of Shakuntala Gamlin as the new Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh was truly an International Women’s Day gift to the women of the State.
Earlier, in her address Chairperson of the Khonsa Women’s Welfare Association Sontung Lowang Bangsia said that the role of women was not to challenge the dominance of men but to work hand in hand with their male counterparts with equal right and dignity.
She highlighted the achievements of women in various fields and exhorted the Tirap women to come out of their kitchen and accept the challenges of shouldering the greater onus of the society.

At Borduria, the IWD was celebrated under the aegis of Borduria Women Association at Borduria village which was sponsored by Lowangdong Foundation in which women from 25 villages under Tirap District actively participated on the occasion.
All the women from different Nocte villages of Tirap district attended the programme.
Principal RKSM Girls' School, Khonsa Vedatmaprana Mataji said Indian women need not fight for equality and approach government for empowerment because Indian women has been empowered by nature adding that Indian culture itself has proved women empowerment. Mataji said that Sarada Math and Sarada Mission is only the women organisation in the world, who directly control and run by women without involvement of men.
Chasom Wangchadong, Chairperson, Borduria Women Association said that many times IWD has been celebrated in town and cities but women living in remote villages and rural areas of Tirap district are still unaware about celebration of the day adding that all section of women wing residing in different places must be motivated to understand the importance of the celebration.
DMO Dr. Neeba Lowang highlighted the importance of International Women Day celebration in brief. She gave suggestion for prevention from various gyneo diseases and breast cancer etc.
Nyiliam Bangsia, of Khonsa village and WD Lowangchha, public leader of Borduria village also spoke on the occasion.
IWD was also celebrated at Deomali with great enthusiasm.
At Tawang, the day was celebrated by organizing a sensitization and awareness camp on Protection of Women form Domestic Violence Act 2005 and Protection of Children from Domestic Violence Act 2012 at DC’s Conference Hall.
Chairperson, WWA, Tawang, members of Child Welfare Committee, Tawang and various officers spoke on the occasion, who advocated for empowerment of women in all spheres.
While highlighting on incidences of sexual abuse and domestic violence that goes unreported, all the participants were requested to report the cases so that care and attention to the victims can be ensured and their right to live with dignity kept alive.
The day was also celebrated at Lhou Circle to mark the social, economic and political achievement of women.
At Koloriang, the IWD was celebrated in a grand manner wherein women from all walks of life took active participation.
Addressing the gathering, Yowa Topu, ADC (Hq) and I/C Deputy Commissioner, Kurung-Kumey called upon the fairer section of the society to work hard, upgrade their skill, minimize their dependent on men folk. He said that if women are economically independent they can take independent decision and contribute more for the advancement of the society, country and the humanity.
Pawan Kr. Prasad, BM, SBI Koloriang stressed on the need for strengthening the Self Help Groups (SHG) in Kurung Kumey and for that he requested one and all for imbibing financial literacy.
Nangram Pingkap, CO, Koloriang spoke about the women empowerment, different constitutional provisions and legal aspects pertaining to up-liftment of women in the country.
T.W Thungon, Deputy Director, ICDS, Koloriang, Chello Sanjay, AE, PHED, Koloriang and Bengia Raja, APO (Credit), DRDA also spoke on the occasion.
At Changlang, a myriad of women related issues and their possible solutions were taken up in a workshop organized at Women and Children Club under the aegis of Tangnu Welfare & Development Society (TWaDS), Arun Jyoti and Arunachal Vikas Parishad, Changlang to mark the occasion.
Marina Kenglang, ZPC Changlang spoke about the ill effects of drug abuse and opium cultivation and the various remedies available. She exhorted them to opt for viable alternatives to opium under rural livelihood schemes like cardamom plantation, horticulture and livestock etc.
H. Bangsia DD ICDS explained the provisions under The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 as well as its effective application and procedures.
Dr M Khimhun, SMO stressed the importance of female hygiene and good sanitation practices and elucidated on various contraception measures, symptoms of women related ailments and Govt. Facilities available to female patients.
The other resource persons were K Tungkhang, President TWaDS and JM Tayeng CO HQ, who explained in brief about various women related laws and statutory provisions and the role of women in tribal society.
Women from all walks of life- agriculturists, entrepreneurs, Govt. Officials, PRI members, SHGs participated in the session.
Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society Seijosa branch also celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday at Upper Seijosa.
Addressing about 350 attendees from different villages, Commissioner Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Indra Mallo, IAS, talked about her father was very supportive and her mother was one of the first graduates of the Idu Mishmi community.
In her case, she said, the saying of ‘if you educate a woman, you educate a family’, was very true.
DFO Pakke Tiger Reserve, TanaTapi spoke about the role and responsibilities of women in society and why the attitude of men needs to change.
He gave the example of the Great hornbill, and said that it has a lot to teach men in human societies.
“The male of this species is involved in full-time parental care,” he said and highlighted that the perception of water-tight division of gender roles needs to change.
APWWS Seijosa Chairperson Melong Bagang, highlighted that cases of domestic violence and issues related to marital problems have reduced in Seijosa.
During the course of these celebrations, cultural program and volley ball tournament was organized.
At Roing, a total of 116 members from 20 SHGs under the aegis of AMYAA, an NGO, gathered in its Training Hall at Mayu-II and resolved to respect and give due care to education of their girl child.
ZPC Sipi Elapra, participating in the celebration, encouraged the members to take up the functioning of their SHGs seriously and to avail every benefit. She further urged AMYAA Chairman RK Paul Chawang and his team to follow-up the SHGs systematically by paying visits and organizing meetings timely at village level to help progress the SHGs.
BDO K Manyu and ZPM Iduli Block Sipa Mena also spoke on the occasion and extorted every participating woman to be proud of being a woman.
APO (DRDA) Suruti Linggi in her message said, “No one can understand better the problems of a woman/mother than herself”. She went on to say that women go through different problems at different stages of life.
“A girl child's difficulties can be best understood by her mother” she said.
She also said that in Idu Mishmi Society when it comes to educating children, generally parents give priority to the welfare of boy child than the girl child.
She pleaded every mother to give extra care to the education of their girl child for girls have tougher life challenges than boys.
Speaking on the occasion, Chawang focused on the present education scenario. He spoke about how in today’s ‘no failing system’ in school has demeaned the very definition of education and has left many potential children to be stranded with no future dreams. He said that educating students is not the sole job of teachers in schools but parents do have equal and greater responsibility to care for, especially mothers have indisplaceable roles to play towards the healthy upbringing of their children.
The first ever coming together of SHGs to celebrate Women’s Day was marked by unique feature of preparing different local dishes by the SHGs and sharing of the same as a symbolic sign of being united for progressive future. The speciality of the common celebration was also seen in the sharing of one’s own stories adding much significance to the event.
At PASIGHAT, East Siang unit of Nehru Yuva Kendra, sponsored by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports celebrated the “International Women Day” at Pasighat S S Mission with participation of womenfolk of the locality areas.
The Yuva Kendra volunteers led by Ibrahim Talom spoke on rights of women as enshrined in the Constitution of India and other acts and laws for them.
Another volunteer, Olom Talom urged the women communities to exercise their Constitutional rights. The members of the NYK have also appealed them to come forward and eradicate the prevailing social evils, our correspondent adds.
At Pasighat JNC a flower/ornamental tree plantation programme was organized at the upper campus of the college to mark the IWD, wherein the Women Wing of the college actively took part.
AT RGU, IWD was celebrated with theme “Celebrating Womanhood with Creativity”, wherein around 300 women and men from various walks of life participated.
Various activities such as physical exercise, games, exhibition of fun stalls, photography, dance, song, recitation of poems were organized to mark the occasion. The main programme in the afternoon was attended by Rangili Nonang Mibang, Deputy Director (Retd.), Directorate of School Education, and Tine Mena, Everester.
At Itanagar Don Bosco College, the Day was celebrated with theme “Pledge for Parity”, by the college fraternity along with Arunachal Civil Society.
Nabam Pitor, Health Research Scientist at Department of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Father R K Guangdiat Nicholas SBD, Principal DB College, ACS Chairman Patey Tayum, Deputy Registrar Marina Siram, S Yadav, RGU Faculty attended and spoke on the occasion.All the speakers mainly highlighted the role of women in the house, in the society and their rights.
ACS Chairman Patey Tayum advised all men-folk to engage themselves in kitchen works atleast for one or two days in a week to help the family members. Batotsi Kri, Assistant professor, Law College, presented a PowerPoint on women’s role in the family. Crowded political field, many cheer leaders

After months of political instability because of Congress infighting, with BJP and Raj Bhavan as cheerleaders, derailing the development process in the state, the new govt led by Chief Minister Kalikho Pul owes it to the people of Arunachal by putting the welfare of the state on the topmost agenda.
For almost a year, citizens were shunted to the backseat as the politicians fought the nastiest battle to be in power. We were reduced to confused spectators as Nabam Tuki and Pul refused to give up as they relentless pursued to be in power.
Perhaps, the time has come for the politicians to redeem themselves and do whatever is necessary to put the state back on the track. Though it would be foolhardy to expect major changes, given the fact that the state does not generate revenue of its own, there is no harm in anticipating positive changes. In a state that is wholly dependent on the centre for food for its citizens, salaries for government employees, funds for hospitals, roads and education, one can only hope that meager funds that center gives is well utilised.
If the new government really wants to do something, there has to be accountability to begin with. Along with accountability, transparent governance will follow. And to achieve that, harping for change in the nearest platform, at the top of the voice is not going change the scene.
As of now, the new Chief Minister is very over enthusiastic as well as hurried, if one goes by the series of announcements.
While it is too early to comment, one can only hope that he does not end up as the Chief Minister that merely promises. But then we are a state that is happy with promises, delivered or not.
However, things need to change and it should. For that change to happen, the Chief Minister must choose his team wisely. The downfall of the former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was largely credited to his political appointees and his inability to keep a rein on them.
For history not to repeat, Pul has some very tough tasks ahead.
While he was quick in bureaucratic reshuffling, many scapegoats of political tussle, Pul’s cabinet are almost a replica of the former ministry headed by Tuki. Though supporters might shout and scream in satisfaction, was the political battle worth the fight, if he had to bring in the same team? Even if the boss has new ideas and aspirations, if the team is the same old one, there are unlikely chances of any remarkable changes.
Few more ministerial berths are empty and he has to choose them wisely without succumbing to the pressure of politics of appeasing tribal affiliations. For once, people of the state as well the ones running it should realize that individual performances are not tribe or majority based.
If Pul has to bring in changes, his first task is not to announce series of promises but bring a credible team that will deliver and implement, not only his promises but the policies for the citizens announced by the centre. The policy of appeasement should be the thing of past. Arunachalees are ready to take a step forward, without being bogged down by tribal connections. And the tiny steps that have been taken must be respected by the Chief Minister by bringing in a team, even if it means bringing in three more ministers from one tribe. As long as they deliver, he should certainly not worry about which tribe they belong to.
As they say politics is all about providing accommodation and appeasement. As of now, it does look like he is not done accommodating yet. BJP is done with cheerleading. Now, they will certainly want to be players themselves and will look forward to plum positions. The field has just gotten smaller and difficult for Pul with too many players, including the ones from Delhi involved.
AIR Pasighat steps in Golden Jubilee year

PASIGHAT, Mar 8: On completion of its glorious 50 years of service to the nation, All India Radio (AIR), Pasighat organized a mass social service and beautification drive in its office premise on March 6 to mark the ‘Golden Jubilee’ year.
The AIR centre has taken steps for broadcasting of special programmes incorporating special messages from important personalities, interview with senior citizens, renowned and legendary artists etc. besides arranging get together.
The radio station was commissioned in 1966 and inaugurated by then Political Assisatant, Kuttick Moyong on March 6 in the same year.
The centre had won two National Awards for its continuous effort in production of value based folklores and mythology of local tribal community. Moreover, it has been organizing annual event called ‘Siang Music Festival’ in order to create awareness of the need to preserve indigenous culture.
The station is going to have an independent News Unit very soon.
Foster healthy relationship with consumers, EAC advises traders
YINGKIONG, Mar 8: Upper Siang EAC Jumte Jini suggested traders to respect the rights of consumers as granted under the Consumer Protection Act so as to foster healthy relationship. He was addressing a department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, East/Upper Siang organized day-long training-cum-awareness programme with the traders of Yingkiong market at Old Community Hall, here on Mar 5 last.
The EAC while, briefing about functioning of consumer court in Upper Siang, said that since traders are also consumers as they buy products or services offered by others, they can approach the district forum and get their grievances redressed.
Unlike other court, district forum provides easy and inexpensive redressal to consumer grievances within maximum period of five months. He, however, cautioned them not to violate provisions of legal metrology laws to ensure delivery of right products with right quantity to the buyers at fair price.
Earlier, Assistant Controller, K P Tago said that MRP of packaged commodities is inclusive of all taxes and commission payable to retailers and other expenses, no additional charges can be added over it on the pretext of transportation charge as is going on in some remote places.
Observing further that some traders are selling packaged items like wall or table clock, helmet, motor parts, electronic items, etc without the cover or wrapper and sells them at their own price, he termed it as unfair practice that amounts to violation of provisions of Packaged Commodities Rules. Such kind of practices should be discontinued immediately. Since manufacturer has given the MRP on the cover, no one has the right to hide or manipulate it, he added.
Demonstrations on provisions of Legal Metrology and packaged commodities rules etc, were also held on the occasion.
Similar consumer awareness programmes were also held at the same venue at Old Community Hall targeting government officials located outside DC office complex.
During the programme, Project Director, Hengo Basar spoke about the importance of legal metrology and other consumer protection laws which are specifically designed to protect consumers. He urged participants to exercise their rights as consumer to protect themselves from unfair trade practices by taking help of consumer court, district forum, which have been set up decades ago in upper Siang district.
STS reacts to news report, assures bus service by March 10 next
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Reacting to a news report from All Kimin Youth Welfare Association seeking resumption of Ita-Kimin bus service, the Station superintendent of state transport services Gyamar Tadap has clarified that the bus service was suspended for the last few months due to major mechanical defects of the vehicle ARX-0406 plying on the route. He informed that the service has not been withdrawn as alleged by the association.
As soon as the bus was taken off the road, another bus - ARX-0302 was immediately ready for placement on the route. However in the meantime, DC Capital requisitioned the bus along with three other buses for Police duty to maintain law and order. “We requested the concerned authority several times to release the vehicles but only two have been released today after a period of around three months. At the moment, we have no spare buses other than the requisitioned buses to place on the route,” the Station superintendent said in his statement.
The bus service has been extended up to Hawa camp and introduced Itanagar-Kakoi bus service without prior approval of higher authority. Providing a new bus have been persuaded for several times, but could not be materialized as it involves financial provisions from the State Government to purchase new buses, he said disagreeing that the State Transport Department has any intention to deprive bus services to a SDO headquarter, Kimin in particular as alleged.
The station superintendent has further assured that the service will be restored by March 10 next by placing one of the vehicles which has been released today.
State ABVP unit stage rally
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: A Tri-colour rally was conducted today by ABVP Arunachal unit allegedly against the anti-national slogans raised by some students group in JNU campus.
The rally started from DNGC ground, Itanagar and culminated before the Akashdeep Complex, Ganga, Itanagar.
Hundreds of students carrying the national flag shouted slogans like Bharat Mata ki Jai, Vande Matram, Students Power Nations Power and Desh Se Jo Takrayega Wo Chur Chur Ho Jayega during the rally, a release stated.
Addressing the gathering, ABVP National Secretary, Hari Borikar expressed opposition to the anti-national slogans raised by some students group of JNU.
Mage Mugli wins DAD competition
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Mage Mugli was declared the winner of Dance Arunachal Dance(DAD) competition being organized by the Orphan Life Society, Itanagar.
Mugli was awarded a trophy along with cash prize of Rs. 80,000 while, Sosar Kuku and Toko Apung were declared first and second runners up and awarded Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. Mechuka MLA PD Sona gave away the prizes to the winners. In his address, Sona advised the budding young talents of the state to take part in co-curricular activities along with their studies.
Dance Arunachal Dance organizing chairman, Topo Nanu Nuk said that the motto behind organizing such an event was to encourage young talent and provide them a platform to showcase their inherent talent.

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Medical officers, staff nurses and other staffs under the Rashtriya Bal Swastiya Karyakaram (RBSK) of various districts took part in a day-long orientation-cum-training programme at NHM state training hall on Mar 8.
Addressing the trainees, state nodal officer (MCH) National health Mission, Dr Tana Natung said that to ensure a healthy future for a child, we need to put concerted efforts and provide equitable health care, early intervention and timely treatment. While briefing about RBSK he informed that it is an initiative under NHM to improve both child survival and quality of child wherein, 4 Ds; defect at birth, diseases, deficiencies and development and delay including disabilities with illness shall be screened and received treatment and followed up.
Resource persons Dr Tabu Muri and Dr Oken Yomcha Nodal Officer, Birth Defect Surveillance System (BDSS) of Tomo Riba state hospital spoke about club feet and birth defects.
A four day-long training for districts counselors for reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health and districts adolescent counselors is also being conducted at the office of National Health Mission. Nodal officer (Training), Dr. T Taku urged the participants to develop a sense of empathy and to establish a rapport to gain the trust of clients. UNICEF consultant Dr Yogesh Pandey is the resource person for the training.
‘Husband sets wife on fire’
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: An incident of violence against women came to light on the day of International Women’s Day, which is celebrated throughout the world for social, political and economical empowerment of women.
As per information received from the parents of the victim through Anjaw Deputy Commissioner, a husband in Samdul village under Hawai circle of Anjaw district tried to kill his wife by setting her on fire on February 27 ‘without any reason’. The parents also accused the husband of meting out harassment against his wife both physically and mentally.
Alleging police inaction in initiating action against the alleged accused husband despite an FIR was lodged at Police Station, Khupa, the parents demanded adequate compensation and five years of life guarantee to the victim from the offender party.
They also demanded the authority concerned to award exemplary punishment to the alleged accused as per law.
RR for RD engineering wing demanded
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: While appreciating the order of the Governor for cancellation of all officiating or functional appointments and promotion on out of turn basis, the extension officers (Rural Engineering) of the Rural Development department have appealed to the Govt for formulation of recruitment rules under engineering wing of RD.
Informing that recruitment rules for promotion has not be framed yet, a group of twenty EO (RE)s in a representation to the Chief Minister claimed that few of them were appointed as TA(RE)s and many EO (RE)s had been appointed to the posts of APO(RE) during last few years without following the seniority.
The EOs further said that concern department has not conducted a single DPC till date.
Traders booked for irregularities
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: A total of 14 irregularities were detected by the Inspector of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Itanagar during an announced inspections conducted here at Gandhi Market for violation of various provisions of the Legal Metrology Acts & Rules.
The inspection team led by Assistant Controller, Papum Pare District, Naharlagun, Amrit Taba found that the traders were selling packaged commodities beyond maximum retail price printed on the packages and without obtaining proper registration from the concerned authorities for selling of such packaged items. Some of the traders were also found transacting business with the use of unverified weights and measures, which is a violation of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. Accordingly, cases were booked against the defaulting traders under the Act.
Making an appeal to all conscious consumers of the area to keep vigil on unscrupulous trade practices, the department has requested the citizens to come forward with their grievances either to the nearest office of the Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Department, or to lodge complaints at the nearest District Forum. The department has also appealed the traders to avoid any kind of mal-practice like hooking of weighing balance, use of stone/iron pieces as weights, smudging of printed price etc.
The department release informed that any weight and measure used during commercial transactions should have to be duly verified by the concerned Legal Metrology officer of the area before these are put to use. Under the Legal Metrology Act, it is mandatory for every user of weights & measures to get their weights & measures verified before initiation of commercial transactions. Similarly, every packaged commodities meant for sale should have mandatory declaration on a level affixed thereto as regards weight, measures or number, date of manufacture/packing, expiry, maximum retail price (inclusive all taxes) etc. No use of additional price sticker is allowed except in case of reduction of prices supported by authorized logo of the company/manufacturer. Tempering of original printed price is also a punishable offence.
NSS volunteers, students repair bridge
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Hundreds of volunteers including members of Rang-Frah Government College, Changlang NSS unit, teaching and non-teaching staff and villagers repaired a damaged hanging bridge over Tirap River, which connects the lone college to different villages as part of the college NSS unit conducted three-day special camping program which concluded at Kengkhu village on Monday.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of the College’s Principal, Dr. Kangki Megu and NSS Program officer, Athuko Tayu.
DNGC family felicitates ICYF-2016 champion team
ITANAGAR, Mar 08: Dera Natung Govt. College felicitated the 20- member team and the escort on Tuesday, who emerged champion team of the just concluded XI Inter-College Youth Festival 2016 at Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills.
Out of the 19 participating team, Dera Natung Govt. College dominated, especially in literary and fine arts events and won the best literary and best fine arts prizes along with other individual prizes.
This is for the 6th time the college has been adjudged as the overall champion in 11 such events held earlier.
Union reiterates demand
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The All Pakke-Kessang Pijeriang Dissing-Passo Seijosa Students’ Union (APPDSSU) has reiterated its demand to construct NH-229 as per approval. The union has been alleging that the executing agency Sushee IVRCL Arunachal Highways constructed a shortcut of 15 kms from Ekawa/Sede to Pakro instead of executing the 31-km road stretch covering Sede to Pakro villages which was as per DPR.
The union has written to the chief secretary in this regard seeking intervention into the matter saying that the diversion from the original DPR is depriving people of Sede, Sede Jollang, Nangnyo, Palin, Chamte, Gumtung, Rasi, Papu Hote, Deve Golo, Tangri Solung, Dhola, Patiwa, Pijeriang, Veo, Taroyar and Pakro villages.
Complaint against SPD RM
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The All Arunachal Pradesh Unemployed Engineers’ Association (AAPUEA) has complained against state project director, Rajya Mission alleging him of not implementing the orientation Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, School infrastructure by Technical Support Group (TSG).
‘We have a junior engineer cum state civil coordinator as a state level coordinator in place of chief engineers or superintending engineers. For the district project coordinator, a assistant teacher(A) or junior teacher or one civil coordinator in the rank of junior engineer in place of executive engineers/assistant engineers and for the block level engineers, a coordinator in the rank of AT(A)s/JTs are functioning as engineers..,’ it’s letter to the chief secretary (CS) read.
The association has sought the intervention of the CS in the matter and appointment of proper candidates for the post.
AAPWU calls for cancellation of appointment
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) Dibang Valley unit has called for cancellation of the recent appointments of few contingency workers as regular (WC) cadre under EE PWD Division Anini claiming it was neither done with proper DPC/trade test nor it maintained the rooster of seniority list.
In its letter to the chief engineer Eastern Zone, PWD, it also demanded for payment of the outstanding wages of the 16 casual workers engaged on master roll under AE Sub- Division Anini and AE Sub Division Etalin for a period of 12 months w.e.f., March 2014 to April 2015.
In its another letter to the chief engineer eastern zone, PHED, the unit also appealed for conducting free and fair DPC/trade test based upon rooster of seniority list of the department.
Free medical Camp
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: A total of 430 patients were screened by child specialist Dr Sharmila Tana, Eye specialist DR Yapa Guha and Medical Officer, PHC Taraso Dr Kena and his staff in a two days free medical camp organized by Taraso Circle Youth Association which concluded on Tuesday at PHC Taraso.
Meanwhile the association has appealed Papum Pare DMO to provide medicines at PHC Taraso.
Union writes to DC
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The All Mengio Students’ Union (AMSU) in a letter to Papum Pare deputy commissioner complained against DDSE for allegedly not taking action seriously against the headmaster of Govt Secondary School, Sakiang for alleged illegal conduct of SA-II examination for Class- VI to VIII. It claimed that the DDSE simply passed a show cause notice to the erring headmaster without taking any exemplary action.
DC stresses on field reviews of works on time
ROING, Mar 8: Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Ravi Dhawan has stated of making on the field review of the works being executed by various departments in the district. DC Dhawan was speaking at the coordination meeting with the Head of Departments in his chamber on Tuesday.
Reminding that the deadline for many works falls on March 31, the DC also warned that there shall be no Civil Deposits and urged the HoDs to strictly follow the Codal Formalities while incurring any financial expenditure.
Further, the DC asked the Superintendent of Tax & Excise and Assistant Mineral Development Officer to make frequent inspection and checking to plug any kind of revenue leakages.
Meanwhile, AMDO JotinLinggi informed that some vehicles were seized on Mar 7 evening for illegal extraction of minor minerals from the notified quarry sites and Rs 21,136 has been realised as penalty as per APMMCR 2002. The AMDO also added that the Department of Geology and Mining, Lower Dibang Valley has realised a total of Rs 1,56,279 as penalty from the defaulters till date. DIPRO
Abo-Tani Okke Mopin released
AALO, Mar 8: The much awaited feature film titled “Abo-Tani Okke Mopin,” produced by Golden Jubilee Central Mopin Celebration Committee (GJCMCC) was released by West Siang SP, Mari Riba at Gumin Kiin, Aalo on Monday.
Appreciating the efforts of the organising committee, SP Mari Riba stated that the film which is based on our ancestor Abotani and origin of Mopin besides it highlights our culture and tribal way of life.
GJCMCC President Doi Ado and Secretary Henrik Basar informed that film is an outcome of a long drawn effort involving huge financial expenditure with an objective to preserve and promote out culture and tradition for posterity. The film will educate the young generations about our ancestor and mythological aspects behind celebration of Mopin festival, added GJCMCC.
The film has been directed by Mijum Lona and will be screened till March 12. DIPRO
AAPLU demands cancellation of appointment
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Alleging that an appointment was made to the post of UDC on officiating basis by DC Kra-Daadi without proper qualification, the All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) has demanded for cancellation of the appointment.
Claiming that the appointed UDC is not a graduate as required for the post; is just a diploma holder, the union also demanded transfer of the DC for violating the norms.

He himself has also strongly denied the charge. Many believe that he became victim of political conspiracy hatched by Sangh Parivar. Ever since BJP came to power at centre, a concerted effort is going on to target those central universities where students are against Sangh Parivar ideology. Students of FTII Pune were the first victim followed by students of Hyderabad University and it culminated at JNU. But by trying to suppress voice of students by arresting JNUSU President Kanhaiyya Kumar, central government have made him hero in front of millions of people. BJP and Sangh Parivar should understand that not every Indian will follow their ideology. There will be voices of dissent and that is the beauty of democracy. Central government should stop their bullying activities and respect different opinion.

Since India is a land of rhetoric, there lies no dearth of "patriots" who zealously proclaim that Indians are the only people who refer to their country as 'Mata'; thereby trying to assert that the fairer sex gets religiously honoured and respected as mothers in India!
But reality is just the contrary. Thus female foeticide as well as infanticide, molestation,
rape, "honour" killings, murder for dowry and witch-
While it remains the urgent duty of the males to do away with their chauvinistic mindset, women should also try to enlighten their souls and minds. Only when women would learn to respect themselves, demand equal rights in the family and society as entitled to menfolk and refuse to get exploited by the society as a mere "commodity" or objects of lust; can it be expected that women would at last found their rightful place under the Indian sky.
The "nationalist" Indians should remember that the Scandinavian countries, Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK and Western Europe do not "worship" their respective nations as female deity; yet the women of those society tread the path of life with heads held high. Thus it is high time India accords its women population their entitled honour, right, respect and dignity. Else, we would be left with no other option but merely to play to the gallery by invoking the hyperbole of 'Bharat Mata' and showering rhetoric on the occasion of "International Women's Day"!
